Shaping and Cuticle Care

Popular nail shapes include round, oval, square, squoval and almond, along with classic finishes like a french manicure or french tip — the best choice depends on your natural nail length, nail-bed shape and daily activities; clients who type, cook or work with their hands often find shorter, rounded or squoval shapes easier to maintain. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends trimming toenails straight across and smoothing sharp edges rather than rounding deeply into the corners, and leaving cuticles in place rather than cutting or pushing them back aggressively, since this can increase the risk of inflammation and infection.

Hygiene and Who Should Check With Us First

Nail tools, foot-care equipment and treatment surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected before each use — the American Academy of Dermatology recommends checking this at any salon. Preparing for Your Appointment

Arrive with reasonably clean hands and feet, and remove old nail colour beforehand where practical unless removal is included. Tell the technician about allergies, previous product reactions or any pain, swelling or visible nail changes. Avoid shaving your lower legs for at least 24 hours before a pedicure, since small cuts increase infection risk, and bring a reference for your preferred nail shape or colour.

Aftercare

Apply a suitable hand or foot moisturiser, avoid picking or biting the nails and surrounding skin, and wear gloves during prolonged cleaning or chemical exposure. Keep feet clean and dry, allow traditional polish enough time to dry, and avoid tight footwear right after a fresh pedicure. Do not peel off polish or gel, and contact the salon if a finish chips unusually quickly or causes irritation. Seek professional advice for persistent pain, swelling or discolouration.
